This session will build on learning from cross-sector conversations conducted as part of Thrive, a Research England Development Funded project, which seeks to better understand the key characteristics of effective teamwork and collaboration. We invite you to hear more about the project and to take part on an interactive discussion and brainstorming session, while connecting with like-minded researchers.

Session outline/ plan

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the context and the drive for more inclusive team-led research models across the sector
  • Hear about examples of effective research collaboration and gain insights into effective teamwork skills in diverse research settings.
  • Recognising the importance of diverse perspectives in research and of fostering an environment where every research voice is valued.
  • Hear about the goals and initiatives of the Thrive Project, and contribute to the ongoing development of new approaches to teamwork.
  • Engage in dynamic, interactive discussions confidently, sharing experiences and ideas with peers, thereby building a strong network of collaborative partners.
  • Utilise a variety of interactive learning techniques, including group brainstorming sessions, case study analyses, and real-world discussions, enhancing their ability to learn collaboratively.
  • Develop skills in collaborative leadership, where every participant's voice contributes to a shared vision of positive change. Participants will feel empowered to initiate and lead collaborative projects.
  • Build a network of like-minded researchers, fostering connections that extend beyond the workshop and providing ongoing support for collaborative endeavours.

Alys Kay (she/her), Senior Researcher Developer, Personal & Professional Development Coach, Team Coach providing 1:1 coaching & career support for researchers. Building resilience, confidence and developing leadership ability.
